The “CRY BABY Tour” will stop by The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Friday, October 21 at 8:00 P.M. Tickets, and a limited amount of VIP packages, will be on sale to the general public beginning Friday, June 24 at 10:00 A.M. In more news, Melanie is set to perform lead single “Pity Party” and fan favorite “Mrs. Potato Head” from her newly RIAA Gold Certified album “CRY BABY” on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” outdoor stage on June 29 (check local listings).
Martinez’s kaleidoscopic companion video for “Alphabet Boy” has proven an online phenomenon, earning over 1 million individual views in the first eight hours of its release; Melanie’s fastest growing video yet. “Alphabet Boy” – which now boasts total views exceeding 11 million – is streaming now at Martinez’s YouTube channel, which now has over 2.2 million subscribers.
The unstoppable popularity of “Alphabet Boy” lit a fire on Martinez’s already impressive sales figures, with “CRY BABY” catapulting to #31 on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 after a 31% sales increase in the days following the new video’s debut. “CRY BABY” made a stellar chart debut upon its arrival last year, arriving at #6 on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 while also coming at #1 on the “Top Alternative Albums” chart. The album – which follows the Long Island-based artist’s 2014 breakthrough, “THE DOLLHOUSE EP” – also had an explosive first week on the iTunes Store, ascending to #1 on the “Top Alternative Albums” chart as well as to #4 on the overall “Top Albums” tally.
“Cry Baby,” the album’s compelling title track, was joined earlier this year by a new companion video. The clip drew 1 million views in its first 18 hours online. “Cry Baby” has now received close to 19 million views via Martinez’s official YouTube channel.
Named by both SPIN and Idolator as one of 2015’s top pop albums, “CRY BABY” is of course highlighted by the soon-to-be-gold certified smash, “Pity Party,” which debuted at #2 on the iTunes Store’s “Top Alternative Songs” before becoming a worldwide Spotify success, reaching #10 on the US Viral 50 and #13 on the Global Viral chart. In addition, the “Pity Party” companion video was tagged #hitoftheweek by MTV Hits, guaranteeing that week’s most plays on the network. The clip – conceived and directed by Martinez herself – has now drawn more than 44 million views and counting at her official YouTube channel.
“CRY BABY” is among the most inventive and striking debut albums in recent memory, an unforgettable collection of provocative pop framed as a modern fairy tale, complete with storybook illustrations and a dramatic structure that takes listeners on a dark journey through the life of its title character. Both the album and Martinez herself are proving critical sensations, with Newsday praising the talented young singer/songwriter’s “mix of pop melodies and spare, trap instrumentation.” “CRY BABY” is “a distinctly 21st century twist of pop, spikily honest and occasionally barbed words served up in cinnamon-dusted melodies,” declared Noisey, “a swirl of R&B curves, stuttering beats, and ratatat hi-hats.” “(Martinez) possesses an arrestingly innocent voice that just barely hides its true power,” noted SPIN, “the bend-over-backwards ability to go for the jugular.” “The juxtaposition of promiscuous parents, complicated love, and substances with carnival pop is haunting,” applauded NYLON, “but infectious enough to keep you coming back for more… like candy.”
Hailed as a stunning singer, performer, and visual presence, Martinez made her late night TV debut with stellar performances of “Pity Party” and “Soap” on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly. Other high profile TV performances include appearances on TBS’ Conan.
“CRY BABY” also includes the hit singles, “Carousel” and “Dollhouse,” both first released in May 2014 on Martinez’s stunning debut, “THE DOLLHOUSE EP.” The compelling “Dollhouse” companion video – conceived, co-directed, and co-produced by Martinez – has proven an online phenomenon, with individual views now exceeding 51 million. “Carousel,” matched the success of its predecessor, reaching the top 10 on the iTunes Stores “Top Alternative Songs” chart after soundtracking the first extended trailer for FX Networks’ hugely popular American Horror Story: Freak Show. In addition, the haunting “Carousel” companion video – filmed on Martinez’s native Long Island, NY – is a YouTube favorite with more than 33 million views and counting.
